RiP update
In regards to RiP there are now a few ideas bouncing about which I need to get down on here
Firstly, a collaboration with TNAGW using their square room that’s on the first floor. Using cubes to either make lots of different ones, make ones with peoples on stories on (word or pictures), or making a ginormous wall covering using cubes decorated by public.
Then there is the process arts website idea, with a poster documenting different properties of materials with photos
Or it’s something more practice based, which is then turned into a “how to” book

the next stage
i’ve decided to focus on the cubes; the places of meaning and the number of years i spent at each one. after playing around with figures i somehow came up with the figure 0.11 which comes from taking the difference/taking the square root of figures and means that i can now calculate the scale to work with. initially i began with a minute figure so i’ve decided to simply multiply by 100 in order to make the size of the cubes more manageable.
based on 30 different numbers the read as follows (in centimetres)
1.10, 2.20, 3.30, 4.40, 5.50, 6.60, 7.70, 8.80, 9.90, 11.00, 12.20, 13.20, 14.30, 15.40, 16.50, 17.60, 18.70, 19.80, 20.90, 22.00, 23.10, 24.20, 25.30, 26.40, 27.50, 28.60, 29.70, 30.80, 31.90, 33.00
divide these number by 0.11. at 5.5 you get the number 5, 6.6 you get 6 and so on. therefore at 5.50, 6.60, 14.30, 26.40, 29.70, 30.80 you will get the number for the years i spent at the 6 locations i am focussing on.
choice of materials
after realising that i was possibly looking at 30 different cubes that are needed in order to represent the time scale (technically it should be 37 but i prefer to finish at 30 in order to be realistic as to what i can get made in time for deadline).
therefore ideally the cubes will be made from:
wire, sponge, copper sheet, pipe cleaners, tracing paper, solid ceramic, knitted, brick, aluminium, perspex, resin, quilted, glass sheet, plaster, straws, wax, glass slump, crochet, bent rod, handmade paper, ceramic tile, leather, bamboo, mount card, willow, silk, solid walnut, acetate, twigs, cardboard
